Kenya, 21 April 2026 - A cross-border manhunt is now underway after several suspects linked to the assault of Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi reportedly fled the country in the hours following the attack.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen told Parliament that while a few suspects have already surrendered, the majority escaped to a neighbouring country, complicating investigations.
“DCI circulated the pictures, three of them presented themselves. The rest… ran out of the country,” Murkomen said.
The government has since shifted focus to tracking the fugitives beyond Kenya’s borders, with security agencies working alongside authorities in the neighbouring state to locate and arrest them.
“We are working with authorities in the neighbouring country, and we will arrest all of them eventually,” he assured lawmakers.
The update sheds light on the scale of the operation behind the attack, which left the senator injured earlier this month in Kisumu. Investigators believe the group involved was larger and more coordinated than initially thought.

So far, three suspects have been charged in court and released on a bond of Sh1 million each, with the case set for pre-trial in early May.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to identify and dismantle any networks linked to the incident, signalling a broader security concern beyond a single attack.
For now, the focus remains on bringing those who fled back into the country, turning what began as a local investigation into a regional pursuit for justice.
