Kenya, 23 December 2025 - The State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action has denounced a viral video showing several women allegedly assaulting a taxi driver and refusing to pay for the service, terming the incident a disturbing violation of the rule of law.
Gender and Affirmative Action Principal Secretary Anne Wang’ombe on Tuesday said the behaviour captured in the footage was unacceptable and contrary to the values of a civilized society.
“This act of violence is indefensible and must be condemned without qualification. No individual has the right to assault another or evade payment for services rendered,” Wang’ombe said in a statement.
She encouraged the affected driver to report the matter and seek support through the department’s toll-free helpline, 1195, or by reaching out directly to the State Department for Gender.
The Principal Secretary further appealed to the public to share any information that could assist in identifying those involved in the incident, stressing that accountability is essential.
