Ceerigaabo, Somalia – The SSC-Khaatumo administration has issued a strong condemnation against what it claims was a targeted attack on pastoralist communities in the Daanweyne area near Ceerigaabo, accusing Somaliland of carrying out the assault.
Mohamed Abdi Ismail Shiine, Deputy Leader of SSC-Khaatumo, speaking at an event in Nairobi, said the attack resulted in the deaths, injuries, and abduction of civilians and was evidence of Somaliland's disregard for peace and coexistence.
He further affirmed that the SSC-Khaatumo leadership holds full responsibility for defending Ceerigaabo and emphasized the city’s importance, equating it to the symbolic and strategic value of Laascaanood and other SSC regions.
These renewed tensions follow a series of past clashes in the region. According to the United Nations, the most recent bout of violence led to the displacement of nearly 43,000 people from Ceerigaabo, further exacerbating the humanitarian situation in northern Somalia.
