Jigjiga (Dawan Africa) – President Mustafa Mohamed Omar of the Somali Regional State (SRS) has officially launched the 2025 summer volunteer program aimed at improving living conditions for vulnerable communities across the region.
Launched on Saturday, July 5, the initiative is part of a broader national effort to encourage people-centered development through grassroots participation and public service.
"We encourage the public to participate and understand the benefits of this program. Together, we can make a difference in every area, spreading the message that we should not rely solely on the government," said President Mustafa during the launch event.
The program features a wide array of activities designed to benefit both individuals and the wider community:
- Green Legacy Planting – to promote environmental sustainability
- Blood Donation Drives – to support healthcare facilities
- Medical Screenings – for cervical and breast cancer, diabetes, TB, and hypertension
- Educational Support – through distribution of school materials
- Housing Projects – construction and repairs for low-income families
- Sports Programs – to promote fitness and youth engagement
- Awareness Campaigns – covering health, environmental care, and community responsibility
President Mustafa stressed that the program’s success depends on active public involvement and collective action. The volunteer initiative is expected to run throughout the summer and contribute to long-term social and economic development in the Somali Region.
