Hargeisa, Somalia, September 21, 2026 Somaliland and Taiwan have opened an agricultural demonstration and training farm aimed at improving seed production, farming skills and food security, Somaliland’s Ministry of Agricultural Development said on Sunday.
The facility in Aw-Barkhadle forms part of a seed industry development project jointly implemented by the ministry and the Taiwan Technical Mission with support from the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund.
Agriculture Minister Adan Geedi Qayaad inaugurated the farm at a ceremony attended by ministry officials, Taiwan’s representative in Somaliland, Allen Lou, agricultural specialists and project coordinators.
The ministry said the facility would provide practical training for farmers, agricultural experts, extension workers and university students on modern cultivation techniques, crop management and quality-seed production.

Qayaad said the project was intended to increase crop yields, strengthen farmers’ skills and improve access to higher-quality seeds.
The farm will also be used to demonstrate agricultural technologies and production methods that could be adopted by farming communities, according to the ministry.
Somaliland and Taiwan have expanded cooperation in agriculture and other development sectors since establishing representative offices in each other’s capitals in 2020.
