Somalia, 22 October 2025 — Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi “Irro” arrived in Erigavo on Tuesday, leading a delegation to attend a peace conference focused on reconciliation efforts in the Sanaag region.
The delegation included traditional elders, the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, several cabinet ministers, and the President’s National Security Adviser.
According to a statement from the Somaliland Presidency, the visit is part of efforts to conclude a peace dialogue intended to foster understanding and coexistence among communities in Erigavo and across Sanaag.
The Presidency noted that the peace conference, which has been underway for several weeks under its supervision, is expected to conclude with outcomes that reinforce sustainable peace and genuine reconciliation.
Sanaag has witnessed intermittent conflict in recent years linked to political and territorial disputes. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the latest clashes displaced nearly 43,000 people and resulted in several fatalities, including children.
