Somalila, 15 November 2025 — Somaliland President, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi ‘Irro’, met today with the leadership of the three main political parties - WADDANI, KAAH, and KULMIYE - amid widening divisions over preparations for next year's parliamentary and council elections.
This marks the third such meeting since President Irro’s election, following similar consultations in July and October this year.
The discussions focused on preparations for the upcoming House of Representatives and local councils elections, expected May 31 next year.
According to a statement from the presidential office, President lrro emphasized the Somaliland’s commitment to organizing free, fair, and timely elections, stressing the importance of collaboration among political parties to ensure a smooth, democratic process.
He underscored the role of the Somaliland National Electoral Commission (SNEC) in managing the technical aspects of the election.

The meeting took place amid ongoing political tensions, with the Kulmiye Party accusing the ruling WADDANI Party of attempting to delay the elections by rejecting proposed agreements on the election process.
In turn, WADDANI has previously accused Kulmiye of attempting to postpone the elections scheduled for next year.
Somaliland’s House of Representatives and local council elections are held every five years.
The last vote took place in May 2021, and the next election is expected in May 2026.
