Ceerigaabo (Dawan Africa) – The President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro, has announced plans to hold a peace forum in the town of Arigaabo, aimed at strengthening peace, coexistence, and unity among the communities in the Sanag region. This initiative seeks to find a lasting solution to the ongoing conflicts in the area.
In a press release from the Office of the President, read by the Presidential Spokesperson, President Irro emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation between the various clans in the region. He called for collaborative efforts to ensure stability and foster peaceful relations in Sanaag.
“I call on elders and businesspeople to fully participate in peace-building efforts and the restoration of stability,” President Cirro said. “The goal is to create a peaceful and unified environment for all the people of Sanag.”
The forum is expected to bring together key stakeholders, including community leaders, civil society representatives, and local authorities, to discuss and agree on a shared vision for peace in the region.
Additionally, the Somaliland government has announced that the transfer of civilian security forces in Sanag to military control is nearing completion. The move will see Somaliland’s military taking full responsibility for the region's security. As part of the transition, local civilian forces are being integrated into the Somaliland army and provided with military training to better enhance their ability to maintain peace and order.
President Irro's peace initiative is seen as an important step in addressing the underlying causes of the conflict in the region and strengthening the security and governance framework in Sanag.
