Somalia, 4 November 2025 — The Somaliland Police Force has released its annual crime statistics, revealing a total of 25,073 criminal cases were filed for investigation between November 2024 and early November 2025.
The figures were revealed by the Head of Police Operations Major General Ibrahim Abdi Haji Mahmoud during the 32nd anniversary celebration of the establishment of the Somaliland Police Force, held at the General Command Headquarters.
The event was also attended by Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi ‘Irro’.
According to the police report, 25,073 cases were registered during the period, of which 4,852 were closed due to lack of evidence.
Additionally, 9,129 cases were resolved through traditional Somali mediation, while 11,092 cases were transferred to the courts.
A total of 48 murder cases were recorded, with 48 suspects identified — 44 arrested and four still at large.
On sexual offenses, 278 rape cases were reported, with 42 dismissed for lack of evidence. 212 suspects were charged in court, while 24 remain at large and under police pursuit.
Drug-related crimes also featured in the annual statistics, with police seizing 3,590 liters of alcohol and 268 kilograms of hashish within the year. Police also dealt with cases involving 17 children — 7 found deceased and 10 rescued and transferred to care facilities.
The past year also witnessed the arrests of several prominent figures in Somaliland, including Abdimalik Muse Coldoon, journalist Ahmed Mohamud Dool, and social media figure Qadan Abdullahi Qaran — incidents that drew extensive public and media attention.
