HARGEISA (Dawan Africa) – Somaliland police on Friday announced the arrest of a man accused of a cross-border killing in Tog Wajaale, after allegedly fleeing from Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State into Somaliland.
Gabiley regional police commander, Osman Hashi Dahir, confirmed that the suspect, Mustafe Mahdi Daheeye, was detained Friday afternoon following coordinated efforts by security forces.
“Security forces have been pursuing the suspect since the incident, and our teams successfully tracked and captured him. He is now being held at the district police station pending investigation,” Osman Hashi said.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear. Tog Wajaale, a border town spanning Somaliland and Ethiopia’s Somali Region, is a critical trade gateway connecting Ethiopia to Berbera Port. While the town thrives as a commercial hub, it faces challenges linked to cross-border crime and security disputes.
