Somalia, 1 November 2025 — This year's National Identity Conference to be held in Mogadishu will focus on utilization, expansion and integration of digital identity infrastructure across the country, the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has announced.
“Last year, we focused on establishing and rolling out the national ID system. This year, our attention is on utilization, service integration, and strengthening the country’s digital identity infrastructure,” NIRA Director-General Abdiwali Ali Abdullahi ‘Timacadde’ said of the conference, which is in its second year.
The conference, to be held on November 24-25, will bring together more than 700 participants, including representatives from federal member states, government institutions, the private sector, international organizations, and academic institutions, Timacadde added.
NIRA has already launched the “Hubiye” verification platform, to help financial institutions and service providers verify customer identity data online, ensuring accurate authentication between individuals and their ID information.
The authority stated that the conference will discuss:
• Progress made in Somalia’s national ID system
• The government’s service integration roadmap with the private sector
• The role of legal identity in advancing digital governance
Government institutions, technology firms, and international experts are expected to discuss how digital identity can enable wider access to public services and business systems across the country.
The event forms part of Somalia’s broader strategy to build a unified national ID system, a key pillar for modern service delivery, public security, and inclusive digital economic growth.
