Somalia, 2 April 2026 Somalia’s federal government has directed South West State’s institutions to maintain normal operations following the president's resignation, aiming to ensure stability and uninterrupted public services.
The directive was relayed on Wednesday to the federal state's ministries and institutions by House of the People Speaker Sheikh Adan Nur “Madobe” who is visiting Baidoa along with other senior federal government officials.
“We have ordered that government institutions continue their work, that ongoing projects are not obstructed, that donor agencies proceed with their activities, and that schools and public services return to normal,” he told reporters in Baidoa.
Madobe also called on international partners to maintain humanitarian assistance, particularly for communities affected by drought.

“We call on donor agencies to continue their work, especially in supporting people affected by drought,” he added.
Madobe said the federal government is committed to organizing one-person, one-vote elections in South West State as soon as possible.
His remarks came after South West State President Abdiaziz Mohamed “Laftagareen” resigned earlier this week and appointed an interim leader to oversee the transition period.
The developments follow recent political tensions in the region, with federal authorities emphasizing continuity of governance and service delivery while preparing for direct elections.
