Somalia, 8 April, 2026 The National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) has released the official list of political parties competing in the district elections of South West State.
A statement issued by the commission on Tuesday evening confirmed that 32 political parties will compete for seats in the local councils of 12 districts in the federal member state.
The districts included in the decree are Baidoa, Barawe, Marka, Afgoye, Wanlaweyn, Buur-Hakaba, Waajid, Berdaale, Dinsoor, Hudur, Ceelbarde, and Qansah Dheere.

Among the registered parties are Community Safety, Prosperity and Unity of the People, reflecting a broad field of contenders as the country moves toward a direct ‘one person, one vote’ system.
The commission has previously set April 28, 2026, as the date for holding both parliamentary and local council elections in South West State.
The list highlights ongoing preparations for the elections led by the federal government, at a time when the region has recently experienced security and political tensions.
