Somalia, 9 November 2025 - Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has announced that it will deliver humanitarian aid to victims of the ongoing clan clashes in Wanlaweyn district, Lower Shabelle region.
SoDMA Chairman Mahamud Ma’alin said the fighting had turned the area into a humanitarian catastrophe, noting that the agency is mobilizing emergency supplies including tents, clothing, medicine, and food.
“The country is facing a difficult situation, with drought and other hardships already affecting the population. The conflict in Wanlaweyn has become yet another disaster,” said the Chairman. “I have ordered that all available tents, medicines, and food be prepared immediately.”
He called on the Federal Government, the South West State administration, and community elders to work together to end the fighting, stressing that such conflicts only worsen existing challenges facing the country like drought and the Al-Shabab insurgency.
“For the Somali people, the drought and the threat from Al-Shabaab are already enough. This fighting must be stopped immediately,” Ma’alin added.
SoDMA is expected to deploy assessment and rapid response teams in the coming days, in collaboration with humanitarian agencies and the South West State government, to help mitigate the humanitarian crisis in the district.
