DAR ES SALAAM, (Dawan Africa) – Somalia’s U-17 women’s national team made history after defeating Sudan 8-2 in their final Group A match at the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The victory marked the first time a Somali women’s national football team has won a regional tournament match, opening a new chapter for women’s football in the country.
Known as the Ocean Queens, Somalia began the tournament with a 4-0 defeat to hosts Tanzania before losing 6-0 to Kenya in their second match, results that ended their hopes of reaching the next round.

However, the young Somali players responded strongly in their final group game, scoring eight goals against Sudan while conceding two.
Although Somalia exited at the group stage, the win over Sudan is being celebrated as a historic milestone and a sign of progress for women’s football in Somalia.
The team’s participation in the tournament is also seen as an important step in developing girls’ football, with the players praised for their resilience, teamwork and determination.
