Somalia, 8 November 2025 — The National Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (NIEBC) has launched a special training program for security officers to strengthen their role in safeguarding citizen rights and maintaining order in the upcoming local government elections.
Speaking at the launch of the program, on Saturday, NIEBC Chairperson Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan said the training is part of ongoing efforts to ensure transparent, credible, and peaceful elections across the country.
“Today marks an important milestone as we officially open the training for security officers who will protect the upcoming local council elections,” said Chairperson Abdikarim.
He explained that the program will focus on equipping officers with skills in voter rights protection, including procedures on how citizens will receive voter cards, cast their ballots, and participate safely in the election process.
The chairperson also praised the security forces for their role during the five-month voter registration exercise, which he said was conducted peacefully throughout the Benadir region.
The training, which officially began today, will continue for the next two days, according to the commission.
The program comes as Benadir’s local council elections are scheduled to be held on 30 November 2025, as earlier announced by the Electoral Commission.
