Somalia, 26 October 2025 — The National Relief Committee has distributed financial support to 372 orphans and families impacted by the October 29 Soobe 2 bombing, reaffirming the government’s long-term commitment to survivors.
The ‘Soobe 2’ bombing, which occurred on 29th October 2022., in Mogadishu, remains one of the deadliest attacks in Somalia’s history. The attack left more than 121 people dead and injured hundreds more at a busy intersection.
The event, hosted at the headquarters of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), saw $300 grants provided to each of the 372 orphaned children. This is part of an ongoing nationwide initiative to support families impacted by the tragedy.
The ceremony was attended by SoDMA Chairman Mahmoud Mo’allim Abdulle, members of the National Relief Committee, and Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Salad, Chairman of the Somali Ulema Council.
Speakers emphasized that the program is part of the government’s broader effort to ensure that affected children receive education, healthcare, and social protection.
“Whoever cares for or supports an orphan has a special virtue, and I want all of us to seek that virtue together,” said Sheikh Bashir, calling on the Somali public to show compassion and unity in helping vulnerable families.
SoDMA Chairman reaffirmed the agency’s continued commitment to assisting families affected by the Soobe 2 tragedy, noting that government support for victims of terrorism remains a core pillar of Somalia’s humanitarian agenda.
“Over the past three years, we have met six times in different forms, always working to ease the challenges faced by orphans. Some children receive regular monthly follow-ups, and we are striving to reach all of them, God willing,” said Mahmoud.
Officials stressed that the Federal Government of Somalia remains committed to social recovery and long-term rehabilitation for victims of violence, describing the program as part of the nation’s resilience and recovery strategy.
The National Emergency Committee was created to coordinate response and recovery operations for the victims and their families after the deadly attack.
