Somalia, 9 December 2025 – The Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education of Somalia, Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, announced on Tuesday that the government is planning a comprehensive review of the national education curriculum in 2026.
Speaking at the opening of the 12th Annual Conference on Somali Studies held in Mogadishu, the minister stated that the aim of the review is to align the curriculum with societal needs and the country’s development plans.
“I would like to announce here that next year, God willing, 2026 will be the year in which the Ministry of Education works on the revision of the national curriculum,” Farah said.

He noted that the review process will include consultations involving universities, whose input will be taken into account.
The announcement comes as the Somali government this year stated that the national curriculum will incorporate the Swahili language.
