MOGADISHU (Dawan Africa) – Somalia’s Office of the Attorney General said Thursday that authorities have intercepted 189 boxes containing illegal drugs and banned pills at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, in a joint security operation.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, the shipment — classified as dangerous to public safety — was seized before leaving the airport after being flown into the country. Formal investigations are underway to identify the network allegedly involved in smuggling the drugs into Somalia, with the aim of bringing those responsible before the courts.
“These narcotics, which pose a serious risk to public safety, were seized before leaving Aden Adde International Airport,” the statement said. “We are conducting official investigations to identify the networks behind this smuggling operation so they can be brought to justice.”
The office described the seizure as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and issued a strong warning to anyone involved in importing or selling illegal substances, stressing that such activities threaten both public health and national security.
