Somalia, 4 May 2026 Somalia is reviewing traffic law to reduce road accidents and improve transport, Transport and Civil Aviation Ministry said.
The ministry held a consultative meeting in Mogadishu on Sunday bringing together officials from government institutions and stakeholders to discuss road safety and traffic management.
Director General Omar Ali Afrah opened the meeting, which included representatives from the ministries of health, public works, internal security, as well as traffic authorities and private sector participants.
Officials presented proposed amendments to the traffic law to help establish a modern regulatory framework aligned with current needs, according to a ministry statement.

The ministry outlined a strategy focused on strengthening legal enforcement, improving coordination among institutions and increasing public awareness on road use.
Participants also highlighted the link between road safety and economic development, noting that reducing accidents and improving traffic management could support broader growth and public safety.
The consultation is part of efforts to develop a comprehensive system to address road safety challenges and congestion in Somalia, the ministry said.
