Somalia, 27 April 2026 Somalia launched at $35 million first phase of the Bulsho Project to strengthen local governance and public service, Finance Minister Iman Egeh said.
The programme, funded through the World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA) and a Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MPTF), will run from 2025 to 2029.
“This project has gone through a long process, including consultations with communities, federal member states and districts, as well as coordination across government institutions,” Egeh said at the launch event in Mogadishu on Monday.

He said the initiative aims to improve coordination between the federal government and federal member states, while supporting the development of institutional systems and service delivery at different levels of government.
Somalia Launches Project to Bolster Local Governance
Somalia has in recent years focused on building governance structures at both federal and regional levels, with support from international partners.
The Bulsho project is expected to build on those efforts by strengthening linkages between central and local authorities and improving the effectiveness of public services, the minister said.
