Mogadishu, 21 September 2026 - Somalia's National Health Professionals Council has appointed Dr. Omar Ahmed Qadi as its secretary-general, according to an official decision on Sunday.
The appointment took effect immediately and was based on Articles 13 and 14 of the National Health Professionals Council Act No. 31, the decision said.
Article 13 identifies the secretary-general as the council's chief executive and sets out an administrative structure that includes departments responsible for registration, licensing, accreditation, quality assurance, training, legal affairs and professional ethics.

Article 14 tasks the General Secretariat with implementing council decisions, coordinating and supervising subcommittees, managing daily operations and preparing reports.
The secretariat may also represent and conduct the council's work when it is not in session, but it cannot suspend or reverse its decisions.
NHPC is an independent statutory body responsible for registering and licensing health professionals, accrediting health facilities, approving health training institutions and enforcing professional standards.
