Somalia, 7 May 2026 Somalia’s Interior Minister Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail met Burkina Faso President Ibrahim Traoré in Ouagadougou to discuss security and intelligence ties, the ministry said.
In a statement on Wednesday the Interior Ministry said the visit is part of Somalia’s broader efforts to enhance international partnerships in security and fight against terrorism.

The minister said Somalia and Burkina Faso share similar security challenges, making closer cooperation essential in counter-terrorism operations, training, intelligence sharing, and coordination between security agencies.
Both Somalia and Burkina Faso continue to face security threats by groups linked to al Qaeda and Islamic State alongside other socio-economic challenges.
