Somalia, 12 April 2026 The Federal Government of Somalia on Sunday launched the construction of the Somali National Army Orphans Care Agency headquarters, marking the army's 66th anniversary.
The ceremony took place in Mogadishu and was led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, alongside Minister of Defence Ahmed Moallim Fiqi and senior commanders of the Somali National Army.
The planned agency will provide care, education, and welfare support for children left behind by soldiers killed in service to the nation. The initiative follows approval by the Council of Ministers after a proposal from the Ministry of Defence.
Officials said the agency is part of broader government efforts to strengthen social protection systems for military families and ensure that children of fallen soldiers receive access to education and dignified living conditions.
President Mohamud said the initiative reflects a national responsibility to support the families of those who sacrificed their lives for the country.
