Somalia, 7 October 2025 – The Swedish Minister of Defence, Pål Jonson, today met with Somalia's Minister of Defense, Ahmed Macalin Fiqi in the capital, Mogadishu.
The discussions focused on enhancing security relationship between the two countries and improving cooperation in the security sector.
In a statement from Somalia’s Defence Ministry said the meeting also addressed Sweden's support for Somalia in combating security threats, particularly the ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab and the Islamic State (ISIS) groups.
Minister Fiqi thanked Minister Jonson for Sweden’s continued support, emphasizing that the bilateral relationship has greatly contributed to the stability of the region.
During his stay in Mogadishu, Minister Jonson is also expected to meet with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. The meeting will serve as an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries and support Somalia's efforts toward achieving peace and security.
Sweden is one of the European countries that contributed to the cancellation of Somalia's debt with the United Nations Agricultural Development Fund last year, and has provided significant support for the country’s stability and economic development.
