Ethiopia, 15 November 2025 — The President of the Somali Regional State, Mustafe Mohammed Omer, has launched the construction of a new Islamic university in Jigjiga today, a project valued at more than 3.57 million dollars.
The institution, which is primarily community-funded, will be built on a 1.5-hectare plot allocated by the regional government.
Senior officials of the Somali Regional State, including Vice President Ibrahim Osman Farah, joined religious leaders, elders and community representatives at the ceremony.

The planned university will offer programmes in Sharia, Arabic language and education among others.
The new institution will become another major Islamic higher-education centre in the Somali Regional State, following Raaso Islamic University, which was inaugurated in Raaso in September 2025.
