Jigjiga, (Dawan Africa) – Somali Regional State Education Bureau launched a competency assessment exam for 295 teacher college graduates, official said Thursday.
The examination, which began at the Regional College of Education, is designed to assess teachers’ knowledge and professional skills to ensure educational quality and produce competent educators capable of delivering quality learning outcomes for students.
Officials from the Education Bureau and the college administration attended the opening ceremony. They stated that the examination forms part of ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education and enhance the professional standards of teachers throughout the region.
Speaking at the event, Mohamed Ayanle, Manager of Dr. Abdimajid Hussein Teachers’ College of Education, said the assessment serves as a mechanism for ensuring that newly trained teachers possess the knowledge and skills required for effective classroom instruction. He noted that the regional education system is built on accountability and continuous evaluation of students, teachers, and schools.

Ayanle said more than 3,000 teachers and trainee educators have been assessed this year, including both practicing teachers and new graduates preparing to join the teaching profession.
Meanwhile, the College of Education administration stated that the 295 teachers who sat for the examination had completed two years of professional training and study. The assessment is expected to play a significant role in verifying the quality of the education and training they received during that period.
Officials also noted that candidates who pass the examination will receive teacher certification, while those who do not meet the required standards will be given another opportunity to retake the exams.
