Kampala, Uganda – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia arrived in Uganda on Tuesday to participate in the African Union-led Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) summit, which aims to chart the continent’s agricultural trajectory for the next decade. The summit, hosted in Kampala, runs from January 9 to 11, 2025.
This high-profile event has gathered over 2,000 delegates, including heads of state, government ministers, and agricultural experts. The discussions are centered on forging resilient agricultural systems and sustainable development strategies across Africa.
A key focus of the summit is the adoption of the CAADP Strategic and Operational Plan for 2026-2035. This framework aims to transform Africa’s agricultural sector, enhancing food security and economic resilience over the next ten years.
The summit is expected to conclude with the endorsement of the Kampala Declaration, which will outline actionable pathways for agricultural reforms and innovations to benefit millions across the continent.
President Mohamud's participation underscores Somalia’s commitment to agricultural development and collaboration with regional partners to tackle pressing food security challenges.
