Somalia, May 8, 2026 Somali police said on Thursday they had detained four people in Mogadishu over alleged involvement in activities considered a threat to the security and stability of the capital, days before planned opposition protests.
In a statement, the Banadir Regional Police Command identified the detainees as Abdihakim Mohyadin Sheikh Ali, Muscab Mire Indhayare, Abdulhamid Abdikarim Hussein and Hamdi Abdi Addow.
Police said the suspects were accused of participating in organized activities that posed risks to public security in Mogadishu.

The police command said preliminary investigations were ongoing and that the detainees would be referred to judicial authorities for legal proceedings.
“Anyone involved in activities against the security and stability of the community will face strict measures in accordance with the law,” the statement said.
The arrests come amid rising political tensions ahead of planned opposition protests in Mogadishu on May 10 and expected talks between the federal government and opposition figures.
