Somalia, 11 May 2026 — Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Sunday urged opposition groups and political stakeholders to take part in national consultations proposed by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, saying the country needed unity and constructive political engagement.
Speaking during celebrations marking Europe Day in Mogadishu, Hamza said the federal government encouraged all political actors to participate responsibly in dialogue and contribute their views.
“President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has extended an open invitation to opposition groups, federal member states and political stakeholders to participate in national consultations,” the prime minister said.
“We encourage all parties to come forward, engage constructively and share their views responsibly,” he added.

Hamza said Somalia belonged to all Somalis and stressed the importance of political cooperation during what he described as a critical stage in the country’s state-building process.
“Somalia belongs to all Somalis,” he said.
The prime minister added that the country needed constructive political solutions and cooperation rather than prolonged disputes and political divisions.
“What the country needs is constructive engagement, not endless disagreements. It needs unity of purpose, not division,” he said.
