Mogadishu, 18 September 2026 Somalia's opposition Himilo Qaran party on Friday called for a national conference to establish an inclusive government if ongoing political talks fail to produce an agreement.
"If the ongoing talks fail, a national conference should be convened to establish an inclusive government instead of concentrating power in the hands of a small political group," the party said in a statement.
The proposal was contained in a 12-page statement issued after the party held a two-day meeting in Mogadishu on Sept. 17 and 18 to discuss Somalia's political, security, economic and humanitarian situation.

Himilo Qaran, led by former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, called for talks involving the federal government, regional administrations and political groups to reach agreements on elections, constitutional changes and disputes among Somali leaders.
The party said its proposed national conference could offer an alternative route to avert a political vacuum if the current negotiations fail.
It also called for a suspension of disputed constitutional amendments and said the electoral process should be based on a political agreement accepted by the country's main stakeholders.
