Mogadishu, Somalia — Somalia’s Defence Ministry said the Somali National Army killed at least 30 Al-Shabaab fighters in Middle Shabelle in the past three days.
In a statement on Friday, the ministry said the operations targeted Al-Shabaab positions in Gayfo, Ruun Idiris and Cali Gaduud, where the group was allegedly using bases to store weapons, military equipment and supplies.
The ministry said the offensive began on 24 June, when government forces struck an Al-Shabaab facility in Gayfo. Follow-up operations on 25 June targeted three additional sites in Ruun Idiris and another location in Cali Gaduud, which officials described as a gathering point for fighters preparing attacks.

According to the ministry, the operations resulted in the deaths of more than 30 Al-Shabaab members and the destruction of two vehicles, three motorcycles, weapons, ammunition and other military supplies.
The government did not provide evidence supporting the casualty figures, and Al-Shabaab has not commented on the claims.
The Ministry of Defence said the operations, conducted in collaboration with international partners, form part of Somalia's ongoing military campaign to weaken the armed group's operational capabilities and restore security in areas affected by the insurgency. It also thanked international partners for supporting counterterrorism efforts.
