Somalia, 5 May 2026 Somali Disaster Management Agency and U.N. officials met Monday to strengthen disaster response and improve aid coordination, SoDMA said.
The meeting was co-chaired by SoDMA Commissioner Mahmoud Moalim Abdulle and United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Assistant Administrator for Crisis Bureau, Shoko Noda.
Somali government officials including representatives from the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, also attended, alongside UN agencies, academics and private sector representatives.
According to SoDMA, the meeting focused on enhancing disaster response, improving coordination among institutions and strengthening the resilience of Somali communities facing the impacts of climate change.

The SoDMA commissioner stressed the importance of aligning efforts between the government, international partners and other stakeholders to achieve sustainable solutions to humanitarian challenges.
UN officials said the drought situation remains severe, noting that around 6.5 million people are facing acute food insecurity, while nearly half a million have been displaced.
They also emphasized the need for locally driven solutions to mitigate future disasters and reduce their impact.
Discussions further explored how to align priorities for humanitarian response, as Somalia faces increasingly frequent and severe climate-related shocks, including droughts and floods.
