Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – The Somali National Army (SNA) claimed on Saturday that 37 Al-Shabaab militants were killed during a military operation in Maqoqa village, located 13 kilometers west of Bulo Haji in the Lower Jubba region. Al-Shabaab has not confirmed or denied the claim.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defence described the operation as “carefully executed” and a “clear demonstration of the commitment of our armed forces and international partners to secure the nation and protect civilians.”
The Danab Commandos, an elite special forces unit of the SNA, played a central role in the operation. Trained and mentored by the U.S. military, the Danab forces were supported by international partners, making this a highly coordinated effort. The Ministry of Defence commended the professionalism and dedication of both the Danab Commandos and their international allies.
“Our forces, particularly the Danab Commandos, are committed to continuing the fight against terrorism. These operations will not stop until the terrorist threat is eliminated and lasting peace is achieved,” the Ministry of Defence said in the statement.
This operation is part of broader security measures being implemented across Somalia, where the SNA has launched coordinated military campaigns against Al-Shabaab. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that it will continue to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of these operations, with a focus on weakening Al-Shabaab's influence in the region.
