Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-The President of SCC-Khatumo State, Abdulkadir Ahmed Aw-Ali 'Firdhiye', visited Djibouti for high-level discussions on regional peace and security, drought resilience, governance, and cross-border issues.
The visit, which included meetings with key officials from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, underscores the collaborative efforts to address pressing challenges in the region.
During his visit, President Firdhiye on Monday met with the Deputy Executive of IGAD, Mohamed Abdi, to discuss a range of critical issues. The talks focused on peace and security, drought and livelihood resilience, governance, and cross-border issues.
A significant portion of the discussion was dedicated to the Khaatumo-Somaliland conflict, particularly the welfare and care of prisoners-of-war. The potential role of IGAD, through its Council of Eminent Personalities and other mechanisms, in facilitating the release of these prisoners was also explored.
"Peace and Security in the Region is a fundamental mandate of IGAD, and we look forward to working on it with all parties and stakeholders," Mohamed Abdi stated on X following the meeting.
In addition to the IGAD discussions, President Firdhiye held talks with President Ismail Omar Guelleh early Monday.
According to the SCC-Khatumo State House, the meeting focused on issues of peace, regional stability, and the state-building efforts in Somalia. President Guelleh's engagement reflects Djibouti's commitment to supporting stability and development in the region.
This visit highlights the ongoing efforts and dialogues necessary to foster peace and security in the Horn of Africa. Both IGAD and Djibouti remain key players in facilitating these discussions and working towards sustainable solutions for the region's complex challenges.
