Sudan, 7 November 2025 - The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have launched a new series of coordinated drone and artillery attacks on several cities controlled by the Sudanese army, deepening the country’s ongoing conflict.
According to Sudan Tribune and local reports, the Friday attacks targeted four major cities - Friday, Omdurman, Atbara, El-Obeid, and Al-Dilling - in what appeared to be one of the most widespread RSF operations in recent weeks.
Residents in Atbara, a city in River Nile State, said drones struck at dawn, aiming for the local airport. The army’s anti-aircraft units reportedly intercepted and shot down several of the drones before they reached their targets. Atbara is an important military and transport hub in northern Sudan.
In Omdurman, located just across the Nile River from the capital Khartoum, the army said its forces also managed to shoot down incoming RSF drones that were reportedly trying to hit the Wadi Seidna military base, one of Sudan’s largest army compounds. The explosions and gunfire were heard across nearby neighbourhoods, causing panic among residents who have lived through months of continuous fighting.
Further south, in Al-Dilling, South Kordofan State, the RSF and allied fighters from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N), led by Abdulaziz al-Hilu, launched heavy artillery strikes for the second day in a row. Local reports said several civilians were injured in the attack, just a day after six people, including a child, were killed in similar shelling on Thursday.
In El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, RSF drones struck multiple locations throughout the day. While the full extent of the damage was not immediately known, residents said the city remains under constant bombardment, forcing many families to flee to nearby villages or seek shelter in schools and mosques.
The attacks come only days after the RSF said it had accepted a US-backed proposal for a humanitarian truce, raising hopes for calm. But the renewed violence has cast doubt on the group’s commitment to peace and deepened fears for civilians already struggling with hunger, displacement, and daily insecurity.
