Garowe (Dawan Africa) –A Puntland counter-terrorism unit has uncovered what it describes as a suspected ISIS training cave in the mountainous Calmiskat region of Bari, specifically between Lugta Garared and Sul Sul, an area known for militant hideouts.
According to a statement posted Monday on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Puntland Counter-Terrorism Operations:
“Our forces uncovered a training cave used by ISIS, located between Lugta Garared and Sul Sul in the Calmiskat mountains.”
Images released by the unit show various backpacks, electrical equipment such as a generator, and a projector displaying Arabic-language material, which the authorities believe were used for training purposes.
No confirmed arrests have been reported so far, and independent sources have not yet verified the number of individuals linked to the site or whether any fighters were present at the time of discovery.
Calmiskat’s mountainous terrain in Bari region has previously been the focus of security operations targeting ISIS-linked cells. Authorities say the group operates in small units compared to Al-Shabaab, often using remote areas to conceal its activities.
