Somalia, 12 May 2026 Puntland’s Health Ministry said on Monday it is monitoring a suspected disease outbreak in Bari region after residents showed symptoms of an unidentified illness.
The ministry said cases had been reported in the areas of Gaatir Oodan, Sheebaab, Kayaxa, Dhaadar, Dasaan and Xankookib in Bari region.
According to the ministry, affected individuals displayed symptoms including fever, vomiting, breathing difficulties and dry mouth.
A statement from the ministry said 32 people, including men, women and children, had so far been taken to health facilities in the affected areas.

Puntland health authorities said medical treatment was being provided to patients while investigations were underway to determine the exact cause of the illness.
The ministry urged residents in the affected communities to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms associated with the disease.
Authorities also advised the public to follow preventive health measures including regular handwashing with soap and water, maintaining food hygiene and ensuring personal and environmental cleanliness.
The ministry said it would continue monitoring the situation and provide official updates when necessary.
