Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – The Benadir Regional Administration officially launched the rehabilitation of 26th June Road in Hodan District today, marking a significant step in improving the city's infrastructure. This 1.3-kilometer road connects the Shaqaalaha and Sheikh Ali Suufi intersections and was severely damaged by recent heavy rains in Mogadishu.
The reconstruction of the road will be fully financed through local tax revenue, reflecting the administration's commitment to ensuring public funds are used for services and infrastructure directly benefiting the community. Governor Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), also the Mayor of Mogadishu, emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government’s pledge to invest in public services through the proper use of public taxes.
“This is part of our pledge to ensure public tax revenues are spent on projects that directly serve the people,” said Muungaab during the foundation-laying ceremony.
The contract for the project has been awarded to Docol Construction Company, which has previously been involved in infrastructure projects such as Zoobe Road and the highway linking Banadir Junction to Wadajir District.
Yusuf Hussein Ahmed, Chairman of Docol, assured that the company would take full responsibility for the quality and durability of the project, promising to repair any damage occurring within the first five years. "If any damage occurs to this road within five years, we will take full responsibility," he stated.
This reconstruction project is part of a larger effort under Muungaab’s leadership to upgrade Mogadishu's infrastructure. The success of this and other ongoing projects will depend on timely completion, quality construction, and sound financial management.
