Paris (Dawan Africa) – Djibouti and France have deepened their diplomatic and parliamentary relations following the official visit of Dileita Mohamed Dileita, President of the Djibouti National Assembly, who met with his French counterpart, Yaël Braun-Pivet, in Paris on Tuesday. This visit coincided with the 50th Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of la Francophonie (APF), where Djibouti is participating alongside 27 other international parliamentary delegations.
The discussions during the meeting centered on enhancing interparliamentary relations, addressing security challenges in the Horn of Africa, and exploring ways to promote integration among French-speaking nations. Both leaders also discussed the recent defence agreement between the two countries, designed to strengthen their security cooperation.
“This visit is about building trust and direct dialogue between our two assemblies, and it demonstrates the practical relationship grounded in the shared values of Francophonie,” a parliamentary source from Djibouti’s National Assembly remarked.
During the visit, President Dileita was given a warm welcome at the official residence of the French National Assembly President, where he received a military salute from the Republican Guard, emphasizing the significance of the visit.
Also in attendance were Djibouti's Ambassador to France, Ayeid Moussa Yahya, Ilaya Ismael Guedi, leader of the opposition party in Djibouti's parliament, and Omar Abdillahi Ahmed, a member of parliament. On the French side, the meeting included Yannick Favennec-Bécot, President of the France-Djibouti Friendship Group, Amélia Lakrafi, a French member of parliament, and Damien Chamussy, general secretary of the French National Assembly.
The meeting underscores Djibouti’s growing influence on the global stage, particularly in its strategic relationship with France.
