Kenya, June 24, 2026 - One person has been confirmed dead following a road accident along the Garissa–Nairobi highway in Mwingi involving an Ambasa Coach bus and a Toyota Prado.
The victim, identified as Mohamed Agane, was travelling in the Prado with three other occupants when their vehicle collided with the bus, which was travelling from Wajir to Nairobi.
According to family member Daud Yussuf, Agane died from injuries sustained in the crash, while the three other occupants of the Prado suffered critical injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
"I lost my uncle, Mohamed Agane, who was travelling in the Prado that was hit by the Ambasa bus. His body was transported to Nairobi, and preparations are underway to bury him at Lang'ata Muslim Cemetery," said Yussuf.
He added that the victims had been travelling from Nairobi to Garissa when the collision occurred, while the Ambasa Coach bus had departed Wajir on Tuesday night and was headed to Nairobi.
The accident occurred in the early hours of the morning and caused panic after the bus caught fire following the collision. Emergency responders and medical personnel were dispatched to the scene and to nearby health facilities to assist the injured.

Mohamed Agane was described by family members as a dedicated humanitarian aid worker who had worked extensively in both Kenya and Somalia, supporting vulnerable communities through various development and relief programmes.
His death has been mourned by relatives, friends, and colleagues, who remembered him for his commitment to humanitarian service and community welfare.
Medical personnel at Mwingi Level 4 Referral Hospital had earlier reported receiving multiple casualties from the accident. Doctors said most of the injured passengers sustained less severe injuries than initially feared, although the response was hampered by shortages of some emergency medical supplies.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the cause of the crash as efforts proceed to establish the full number of casualties and the circumstances that led to the collision.
