Las Anod (Dawan Africa) – Lawmakers in Somalia’s Northeastern State are set to elect the President and Vice President today for a five-year term, with the vote scheduled in the regional capital, Las Anod.
A total of 83 members of the State Assembly will participate in the ballot, marking the final step in establishing the state’s leadership. The assembly itself was elected earlier this month through an indirect voting process across local constituencies.
Security authorities have imposed a curfew in Las Anod from midnight until 6:00 p.m., limiting civilian movement. Only security personnel and vehicles tasked with election operations are exempt from the restrictions.
