Somalia, 4 May 2026 North East State appealed for aid after flash floods killed two people, injured 25 and displaced more than 225 families in Buuhoodle district, officials said Sunday.
Low-lying areas, including settlements for internally displaced people, were inundated, causing widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure, according to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.
Floodwaters and strong winds destroyed shelters, schools, mosques and communication networks, leaving many families without adequate cover.
Officials warned that sanitation conditions had deteriorated after communal latrines were submerged, raising the risk of waterborne diseases.
Access to affected areas has also been severely disrupted, with key roads and transport routes becoming impassable, hindering humanitarian operations.
