Mogadishu, (Dawan Africa) – The National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) began transporting four tons of voter registration materials to Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State, on Monday. The materials, dispatched from Aden Adde International Airport by the Chairman of the Election Commission, Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, will mark the start of voter registration in the region. Dhuusamareeb is the first city to receive the materials, followed by other districts in Galmudug.
"This shipment marks an important step forward for the Somali people, demonstrating that the Commission is progressing to other regions of the country after completing voter registration in Mogadishu," stated the Chairman.
Dhusamareb’s role as the first regional city to receive the materials sets the foundation for voter registration to commence as scheduled. Meanwhile, Baydhabo, located in the South West State, will follow with its own public voter registration campaign. A public meeting was held in Baydhabo yesterday to emphasize the importance of voter registration, and the campaign is expected to begin soon.
Both Duusamareb and Baydhabo are crucial in the election process, with their voter registration campaigns anticipated to be among the busiest across the regions. The Commission’s efforts in these areas will play a significant role in ensuring that voter registration is accessible and effective nationwide.
Voter registration in Mogadishu started on April 15, 2025, and is still ongoing, with the official end date yet to be announced.
