Mogadishu — Mogadishu Police arrested Hassan Elmi Botan, accused of posting an advert that violated the dignity of Somali women, police said on social media.
The Warta-Nabadda District Police Station took into custody, Botan, who is accused of posting a promotional video on social media that was considered offensive to the honor and dignity of Somali women.
According to the police, officers from the Warta-Nabadda District Police Station arrested the suspect at a center he had named “Dugsiga Raaliyo.” It was from there that he had recently circulated a video advertising land for sale. The video, which was posted on TikTok, allegedly stated that anyone who bought one plot of land would “receive a free girl,” a remark that sparked widespread public anger, particularly among those advocating for women’s dignity and rights.
The police described the act as immoral and against Somali social values.

The police said the suspect will be charged in court once investigations are completed.
The statement also warned individuals and groups who, according to the police, hide behind the cause of defending women’s rights while spreading misleading reports, accusations, or statements that could damage the reputation of security institutions and erode public trust.
The incident has been widely discussed on social media in recent days, with many people condemning the use of Somali women in commercial advertising in a manner that undermines their dignity.
