Mogadishu, 18 September 2026 Being discharged from hospital does not always mark the end of treatment. Many patients leave surgery or intensive care still struggling to stand, walk or independently carry out everyday activities. This is where another critical stage begins: rehabilitation.
To help meet this need, Rayhan Rehab & Wellness Centre opened a new facility in Mogadishu on September 17.
The centre aims to help patients move from hospital beds towards independently managing their mobility and daily lives.
Rayhan provides physiotherapy and rehabilitation services for people experiencing back pain, muscle and joint injuries, paralysis and other conditions that restrict movement.
The General Manager of Rayhan Rehab & Wellness Centre, Abdulkadir Ahmed Osman, said its services are not limited to patients able to visit the facility. Rayhan's staff can also reach patients at partner hospitals, in their homes and those discharged from intensive care units.
"Some patients come to our centre, while we visit others at the hospitals with which we cooperate. We also serve patients leaving intensive care and those whose conditions prevent them from visiting the centre," Abdulkadir said.

The centre's services include outpatient physiotherapy, home-based care, preliminary assessments, consultations and referrals to hospitals when patients require further medical attention.
Treating people with back pain and different forms of paralysis is among the centre's priorities. Each patient undergoes an assessment to determine the extent of their injury or reduced mobility before receiving a rehabilitation programme tailored to their condition.
"We will provide care in their homes for people who cannot come to the centre," Abdulkadir said.
The centre has also developed specialised services for patients recovering from surgery. After undergoing an operation, a patient may need to relearn movements that were previously easy, including getting out of bed, standing, walking or using their arms and legs.
The opening of Rayhan Rehab & Wellness Centre highlights an area of healthcare that often receives insufficient attention. Treatment does not end when a patient undergoes surgery or leaves intensive care; it is completed when the person regains the ability to return to everyday life.
