Djibouti, 14 September 2026 Mogadishu and Djibouti plan to sign a memorandum of understanding and a city-twinning agreement as part of efforts to formalize cooperation between the two capitals, Djibouti's state news agency ADI reported.
Mogadishu Mayor and Banadir Governor Hassan Mohamed Houssein Muungaab arrived in Djibouti on Sunday for a three-day official visit at the invitation of Djibouti Mayor Said Daoud Mohamed.
Speaking after his arrival, Muungaab said the main purpose of the visit was to sign an agreement establishing cooperation and joint work between the two cities.
The Somali delegation includes officials from the Banadir regional administration, the Mogadishu local authority and Somali business representatives led by Chamber of Commerce Chairman Yasin Mahmoud Cibaar.
The planned agreements are intended to provide a structured framework for cooperation that has largely remained informal, ADI reported.

The two sides are expected to discuss trade relations, investment promotion and the exchange of expertise between businesses in the two cities.
The program also includes visits by the Somali delegation to port and economic infrastructure in Djibouti.
Broader discussions are expected to cover municipal governance, urban planning, waste management, environmental protection and green spaces, as well as education, culture, heritage and social development.
The two capitals also plan to appoint focal points, establish a joint monitoring mechanism and develop a five-year action plan to support implementation of the cooperation framework.
Muungaab thanked his Djiboutian counterpart for the invitation and reception, and said the two cities should work together to strengthen ties between their populations.
