Somalia, 22 December 2025 The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) has announced that Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu will be closed on December 25, 2025, due to the planned local elections in the Banaadir region.
A statement issued by the authority today confirmed that there would be no movement allowed at the airport on the closure date, adding that the decision is aimed at ensuring security and peaceful management of the elections on 25 December.
The SCAA said that it has already informed airlines that there will be no arrivals and departures, adding that operations will resume after the elections.

“The Aden Adde Airport is closed due to the local elections, and no movement will be allowed,” the statement read.
The closure highlights the government’s efforts to ensure security and stability is maintained during the elections.
The Banaadir elections, scheduled for December 25, has faced heavy criticism from the opposition who have accused the government of monopolizing the process.
