Somalia, 22 December 2025 The administration of Banadir Region has officially approved the $63.8 million budget for the 2026 financial year.
The budget received 45 votes in favor, with 1 legislator opposing, and no abstentions.
According to the Banadir regional administration, the new budget will focus on the development of key services in the region, with a special emphasis on infrastructure projects, security, and economic development.
The 2026 budget marks a significant decrease compared to the $100 million budget of last year, with the 2024 budget, at $67.96 million, still higher than the current one.

This reduction in the budget has raised questions about the management practices of Banadir Region, given that the Governor of Banadir and Mayor of Mogadishu, Mohamed Abdi Hassan Mungab, had previously warned that no individual; institution or organization would receive money without contributing to the region's develioment. He also made adjustments to the salary structure for employees within the local government of Mogadishu.
The 2026 Banadir budget is also part of the local government's plans to strengthen the local economy and build essential infrastructure to achieve the goals of progress and stability in the region.
The Banadir regional administration has urged the public to continue supporting and participating in the region’s development programs.
