U.S. July 8, 2026 - Meta has announced the launch of its first AI image-generation model as the technology giant seeks to expand its AI capabilities across its platforms.
The model, Muse Image, was engineered through Meta's Superintelligence Labs and is now accessible through Meta AI.
The model will allow users to generate high-quality images using simple conversational prompts, edit existing photos, and share their creations directly to feeds, stories, or chats across Meta’s apps.
The tech company has further said that the model will also introduce more than 30 AI-powered creative effects for Instagram Stories. At the same time, users in selected countries will be able to generate images directly in Meta AI chats on WhatsApp, with plans underway to expand it to other countries.
Muse Image will work with the recently introduced Muse Spark model, which powers advanced reasoning capabilities in Meta AI.
This will enable the assistant to understand prompts, plan image layout, access real- time web context, and combine multiple visual references before producing an image.
While Muse Image will be available free for everyday users, Meta said higher usage limits will be offered through its subscription plans.
“Muse Spark made Meta AI a smarter assistant; now, Muse Image acts as the creative partner that knows your world, making it easy to turn your ideas into high-quality visuals that you can download and share anywhere, including directly to your feed, story, or chats,” the company stated.
According to the company, users can create images from scratch or edit existing ones by just describing changes in natural language.
The model can erase unwanted objects from the photos, generate images featuring users in different locations, create functional QR codes, and accurately render readable text for materials such as infographics and instructional guides.
To ensure that a user has a seamless start, the company has included a presets panel offering suggested prompts for common creative tasks, including restoring old family photos and trying different hairstyles, among others.
The company has also confirmed that it has introduced AI-assisted interior design capabilities. This will allow users to photograph a room and request redesign ideas using real products sourced from the web or Facebook Marketplace.
Furthermore, the tool can recommend furniture and decor based on specific styles or current trends.
In another new feature, users can mention public Instagram accounts within the Meta AI app to incorporate publicly available photos from those profiles into generated images. However, owners will have the ability to disable the feature so that their content does not go public.
The company has said that the tool will be expanded to Facebook, Messenger and additional surfaces across Instagram and WhatsApp. The company also has plans to embed the technology into Advantage+ creative tools, thus allowing advertisers and agencies to generate marketing content using the model.
